Franzen doors for transformer rooms
Shopping centres, data centres, hospitals and industrial operations often have very high electricity consumption. It usually makes sense for them to be connected directly to the medium-voltage grid. However, these power consumers then have to operate their own transformer stations to transform the power voltages to the low-voltage grid. The protection of these transformer stations in specially secured transformer rooms plays a central role here.
The safety doors that provide access to the transformer rooms are particularly important. They are designed as sheet steel doors to safely shield critical systems.
Carefully developed and tested
Franzen transformer room doors are specially developed to withstand the extreme stresses of an electric arc. Such an arc fault is caused by an unintentional electrical discharge and can reach temperatures of several thousand degrees Celsius. It causes immense pressure waves and poses a high risk to people and systems.
Test procedures in recognised test centres
To ensure the safety of the transformer rooms, Franzen transformer room doors are tested by recognised test centres in prescribed test procedures.
The three-pole arc initiation is a central test method in which an arc is simulated between three phases. This test setup creates realistic conditions of a potential incident and is essential for testing the resistance of a door to high thermal and mechanical effects.
Tested for up to 31,000 Pa pressure
Surge current and short-circuit current tests are also carried out in the test facilities. These tests measure the door's ability to withstand short-term extreme current peaks, such as those that occur in the event of an electric arc or short circuit. Another test criterion is the pressure resistance of the doors. Franzen transformer room doors can withstand pressures of up to 31,000 Pascals in the event of a fault.
Robust and safe - Franzen transformer room doors
The robust Franzen transformer room doors not only provide physical protection for the transformer room, but also increase the safety of the entire energy supply system. They reliably withstand the high thermal and dynamic loads that an electric arc can cause.
The tested Franzen transformer room doors protect both people and systems from the dangerous consequences of an arc fault and enable the safe operation of transformer stations.
Franzen transformer room doors are available in single-leaf or double-leaf versions. Optionally also with burglar protection up to RC4 (WK4).
