Safety through Franzen bullet resistance

The bullet-resistant doors Franzen FBN-1 in classes FB4 to FB6 in accordance with EN 1522/1523 offer a high level of protection against attacks with small arms.

The requirements and associated test methods are defined by the European standards EN 1522 and EN 1523 for the resistance of doors to ballistic attacks. In accordance with these standards, the Beschussamt Ulm (Proof House in Ulm) has carried out the tests on these ballistic-resistant doors.

Testing by the Beschussamt Ulm

The Beschussamt Ulm (Proof House in Ulm) is one of the most modern testing and certification centres for weapons, ammunition and security technology in Germany. The doors were successfully tested there in accordance with the standard specifications for the respective resistance classes.

EN 1522 and EN 1523: Ballistic resistance

The European standard EN 1522 describes the classification of bullet-resistant doors. It specifies the type of projectiles that must be repelled in the respective classes.

The European standard EN 1523 describes the specific test methods in which the doors to be tested are tested under various bullet conditions.

The standards divide the resistance to bullet impact into classes. These follow defined criteria such as type of firearm, calibre and ammunition.

Protection classes FB4 to FB6 summarised

  • Protection class FB4

Doors in this protection class protect against fire from handguns with powerful pistol ammunition and considerable penetrating power.

FB4 class doors are particularly suitable for protection in areas where there is a risk of attacks with handguns, such as administrative buildings, banks or embassies.

  • Protection class FB5

Doors in this protection class also protect against gunfire with ammunition, as is often used in assault rifles.

FB5 class doors are designed for areas where there is a higher risk of attackers being equipped with military or heavier weapons.

  • Protection class FB6

Doors in this class offer additional protection against even more powerful ammunition, such as that typically used in sniper rifles and machine guns.

These doors are used in high-risk areas such as military facilities, high-security areas and high-risk political facilities.

Schröders doors system with bullet-resistant threshold

The bullet-resistant threshold of Franzen doors provides additional protection against a considerable security risk. Without such a threshold, projectiles can penetrate through the lower door gap. This unprotected area offers attackers a potential weak point that undermines the protection of the entire door system.
